Humans of Omise: Phureewat (A)

Omise

cover

What drew you to Omise originally?

I joined Omise in 2017 through a referral program. My friends who worked here invited me to join the company. I found Omise was a fast-growing and highly innovative company with a group of talented developers. So, those things drew me to this long journey.

How long have you been with Omise, and what do you do here?

Approximately 2 years and 6 months as a Software Developer. I currently belong to the Foundation team.

When did you start to realize that you like what you are currently doing?

I fell in love with coding when I was 12 years old when I got my first PC. I started coding in C as my first programming language to control a robot. I have found myself enjoying coding since then.

What have you gained from working at Omise?

My weight... joking! 🤣 I have grown up a lot and have improved my skill sets in all dimensions. The most valuable skill to me are skills from remote working.

Before joining Omise, remote working was new to me. I learned a great deal of self-discipline and self-management that I am sure would help me thrive for future success not only with my career but also in my daily life.

On your days off, what do you like to do?

I enjoy a lot of things; however, one thing that is always in my weekend routine is a good cup of coffee. During the day, I sometimes go to house/condominium viewings around Bangkok. I'm an avid property investor myself. At night, I usually hang-out and watch football with my friends.

On a lazy day, I would spend all day at home. I enjoy decorating the house, gardening, or reading books. My bookshelf is mostly about work psychology and housing. I am passionate about real estate, architect, and design and enjoy talking about it.

How does your ideal house look like?

It would be cozy, minimal, and modern contemporary.

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it?

Hmm, I've never thought about having my own book before, but a light bulb naming idea is This is A book. Does that sound cool? (A is my nickname.)

If you had to recommend a book to Omisians, which book would you pick and why?

I would recommend Work Rules by Laszlo Bock (Head of People Operation at Google).

For me, this is an insightful book. It goes beyond matters concerning the HR department but covers topics on how to stay sane and humane on a daily basis. I think this is a great book that everyone in a modern business company should read.

Do you have a favorite quote?

I don't have a preferred short quote, but I have a great paragraph as my life motto from another favorite book of mine, Connecting the dots.

"As kids, we're brimming with curiosity. We explore new places, get lost, try new things, climb trees, fall down, accept dares. It never stops. We ask questions, and we don't always care who gives us the answer. We just want to know it, then we file it away, and go off to do something else.

As we get older, though, curiosity starts to diminish. All of a sudden, we're the ones who are supposed to have the answers. We worry about looking dumb or ill-informed. We don't want to offend people or step on any toes. We seek expertise in a form that feels familiar to us and are taught to impress each other rather than learn from each other. Sometimes, we don't even want to know what someone else thinks in case we don't like what they'll say. We're not seeking feedback. We're looking for reinforcement. You don't become enlightened that way, and you miss most new opportunities."

We're looking for great people to join our team
